Julie Pettibone

Julie Pettibone

Julie Pettibone earned her BS degree from St. Francis University. She spent five years teaching in self-contained ED classrooms at Monmouth Elementary in Decatur while working at Adams and Wells Special Services Cooperative. She moved to Southwest Allen County Schools 21 years ago and taught in self contained ED classrooms for secondary education students for 17 years. She sought a master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis and became Board Certified as a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst on her journey to provide additional supports for the students in her community.

She currently works as Southwest Allen County Schools’ Autism/Behavior Consultant. She serves as her district’s Autism Consultant in the NE Roundtable, attends monthly and subcommittee meetings for Allen County’s System of Care, and works 1:1 with students, staff, and provides school wide trainings. She is currently finishing a second masters at Ball State University to obtain Director of Exceptional Needs Licensure.

She has a wonderful husband and two daughters. In her free time, she enjoys reading professional journals, books, and sailing at Grand Lake St. Mary’s, Ohio. She is considering obtaining a doctorate in Applied Behavior Analysis after a few years of taking some time off from classes. She hopes to find a position as a Special Education Director so she may share her expertise and knowledge on a broader scale.

Kimberly Luke Scherer

I have had the great pleasure of working for East Noble School Corporation for the last 12 years; part of a community in which I was born and raised.  I graduated from IPFW with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education with licensure in Middle School Language Arts and Social Studies, and later added a minor degree of study in Mild Disabilities. In 2010 I completed my Master’s Degree in Exceptional Needs Intense Intervention at the University of Saint Francis.  The school corporation has had me serve on the Autism Team for the past 11 years, and I am nearly finished with a certification as a Registered Behavior Technician. Currently, I am enrolled in the Director of Exceptional Needs program at Indiana University.

At East Noble I have taught Functional Life Skills at all grade levels where we currently educate and serve students beginning in eighth grade until they reach the age of 22. Our room, is not just a classroom of workers, but one that contains a family. We celebrate each other’s triumphs and support each other through all of our challenges. The team that I work with is nothing short of amazing; each of us is invested in our students and we all have high expectations. Not only is our classroom so wonderful, but we also have great support in our building and in our district as well. Together we continue to break down barriers for our students with special needs and gain support from our community. I am proud to co-teach with wonderful teachers; together we have created the Round Table CafĂ©—an in-house restaurant staffed by students with disabilities. At the cafe students are responsible for food preparation, service, bussing, and clean-up. We also co-teach Learning Partners simultaneously with FLS. Learning Partners is a class for students that seek to work with differently abled individuals. This class helps break down stigma associated with disability and facilitates respect, caring, and friendships that extend beyond high school.  I am also proud supporter of #UnifiedChampions #UnifiedKnights #knightnation.

In my personal life, I am blessed by two beautiful children, four dogs, and a loving husband. Faith is the cornerstone of my life.  We have a very close family that is very supportive.  I am a huge fan of classic rock and contemporary Christian music.  I enjoy taking my mother to concerts, spending time outdoors, and reading. I am inspired to write, quilt, and finish my Grandfather’s quest to trace our genealogy. As a professional, I intend to obtain my Ph.D. and teach at the collegiate level in my silver years. At the end when I look back, I should hope to say I lived according to Robert Frost, “I shall be telling this with a sigh. Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”
